MUSC Health to Expand its Virtual-First Primary, Urgent and Behavioral Health Care Services in South Carolina in Partnership with Ovatient

The statewide offering connects patients to MUSC Health’s trusted care through Ovatient’s integrated, virtual-first care model

Charleston, S.C. June 3, 2025 – Ovatient, a virtual-first health care services company, today announced that it launched its virtual-first care offering built on Epic and MyChart in South Carolina at MUSC Health, the Medical University of South Carolina’s health system. Epic is MUSC Health’s electronic medical record, and MyChart is its patient portal.

Patients across the state now have greater access to virtual care services, leveraging Ovatient’s whole-person model of care. Ovatient will provide on-demand urgent care and virtual-first primary care as well as integrated behavioral health services, with expectations to deliver care for more than 50,000 MUSC Health patients in the first year alone.

“It’s important that patients know they can access care when and where they need it. As a founding member in Ovatient, we are building on MUSC Health’s best-in-class virtual care offerings to give patients across the state access to new virtual-first care services that are connected and coordinated with the care teams they trust at MUSC Health,” said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., CEO, MUSC Health and executive vice president for Health Affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Ovatient’s full-time, dedicated virtual care team fully integrates with MUSC Health’s digital front door, Epic and MyChart, providing a meaningful, person-centered experience for MUSC Health patients. Ovatient providers have earned an industry-leading net-promoter score of 82, and 95% of our patients say they would use our services again. And while Ovatient’s service are virtual-first, they are not virtual only. Patients can go from virtual to in-person care seamlessly tailored and coordinated to their lives and existing care team.

Everyone’s health journey is unique, and everyone should be able to choose how, when and where they get their care without ever compromising on quality. With MUSC Health, we are championing a more coordinated approach to virtual care that connects patients to care teams they trust, whether they are in person or online,” said Michael Dalton, CEO of Ovatient. “When care is connected through the EHR, patients and providers alike see a seamless experience, and we build and maintain trust. With this information, health systems grow their insights and share of care and build stronger relationships with their patients.”

The launch of Ovatient’s virtual-first services in South Carolina follows the recent debut of its MyCare Anywhere, a new digital health experience. Available on desktop and mobile – including iOS and Android devices – MyCare Anywhere is EMR-integrated to offer hyper-personalized virtual care, expert health content and self-guided health journeys. It is initially available to patients throughout Northeast Ohio through Ovatient’s partnership with The MetroHealth System.

Built for health systems by health systems, Ovatient is transforming health care delivery by strengthening patient relationships with trusted health systems. We’re working to unlock new opportunities for our health system partners to improve health outcomes, reduce costs and more deeply engage patients in their markets.
