Ovatient’s new virtual care model is redesigning how health systems connect and build relationships with patients

CLEVELAND, OH. May 6, 2024 – Ovatient, a virtual-first health startup co-founded by The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio and MUSC Health in Charleston, S.C., began serving patients for the first time with its suite of patient-centered virtual care services that are built on Epic and MyChart. MetroHealth chose Ovatient to serve as its dedicated, virtual-first option for care with the goal of providing a suite of patient-centered options that extend MetroHealth’s care footprint. Ovatient and MetroHealth plan to serve more than 12,000 patients in the first year of their partnership.

Ovatient’s nationwide team of dedicated virtual providers and care team members work closely with MetroHealth care teams to provide patients with connected, coordinated and convenient virtual care services, including Virtual Urgent Care, Same-Day Primary Care and Scheduled Primary Care. MetroHealth’s pharmacy and Ovatient also provide same-day prescription delivery services.

“MetroHealth’s new Virtual Care services powered by Ovatient ensure that our patients across Northeast Ohio can access high-quality care wherever they are. As a national leader in value-based care, we want our patients to think of MetroHealth first when they need access to high-quality primary care. Ovatient helps deliver on that goal,” said Nabil Chehade, MD, EVP and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer for The MetroHealth System.

Ovatient’s comprehensive virtual primary and urgent care services are billed through MetroHealth and are covered by insurance or can be paid with affordable and convenient cash options. Through MetroHealth’s partnership with Ovatient, patients in Ohio can get care wherever they are, including at home, at work or on the go.

Ovatient integrates seamlessly with MetroHealth’s systems, including Epic and MyChart, as well as its Customer Care Center, providing a more meaningful, personalized patient experience and empowering providers with nearly real-time data. And patients can go from virtual to in-person appointments with confidence that their care will be personalized and tailored to their needs.

“Ovatient has a new vision for how health systems can better reach and empower patients to get care. We are expanding and extending our partners’ clinical offerings, helping them deliver better care for their patients and compete against new market entrants,” said Michael Dalton, CEO of Ovatient. “This is a milestone moment for Ovatient. But it’s just the beginning. We are eager to make our vision a reality, where patients are in charge of their health journey and convenience doesn’t mean compromising on coordinated, compassionate and longitudinal care.”

What’s Coming Next

Later this year, Ovatient through its partnership with MUSC Health, will begin delivering virtual care services to patients throughout South Carolina.

“As a national leader in the field of telehealth, we understand the value that access to high quality virtual care provides for the patients we are honored to serve across South Carolina. We look forward to Ovatient providing its suite of services built on Epic as part of our comprehensive menu of coordinated and connected virtual care options,” said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., MUSC Health CEO and MUSC executive vice president for Health Affairs, University.

Providing next-level virtual care services is just the first stage on Ovatient’s roadmap to better-serving patients and connecting them to trusted health systems. Coming later this year, Ovatient will launch an innovative digital health platform that will make it easier than ever for patients to get care and improve their health. This new platform, available exclusively through Ovatient’s health system partners, will include an improved consumer experience, access to more virtual specialty providers, and advanced consumer insights and clinical decision support.

Built for health systems by health systems, Ovatient is transforming healthcare delivery by strengthening patient relationships with their trusted health systems. We’re working to unlock new opportunities for our health system partners to improve health outcomes, reduce costs and more deeply engage patients in their markets.
